Center for Holocaust Awareness and Information (CHAI)

Federation's Center for Holocaust Awareness and Information (CHAI), is dedicated to ensuring that the Holocaust and its lessons are not forgotten. CHAI, which means “life” in Hebrew, reflects our mission of preserving and educating the next generation of Jews about the Shoah.

CHAI provides resources on-site at the Federation, online, and in schools, to support teachers, educators, and community members who engage in this crucial work—whether it is to fulfill New York State’s education mandate on teaching about the Holocaust, or providing assistance to survivors and their families.

Reach out to CHAI to learn more about:

  • On-site library and media center
  • Films, books, survivor interviews, and other media resources
  • Traveling Trunks with films, books, maps, posters, photographs, artifacts and curriculum available to middle school classes
  • Survivors In The Classroom in-class speakers series
  • Journey for Identity and Zikaron programs that bring young adults on trips to Holocaust museums and landmarks to experience our story firsthand
  • Annual programing for International Holocaust Remembrance Day and Yom HaShoah
  • Rochester Survivors Archive featuring interviews with local survivors

Ways to Give

Every day, we work to provide compassionate, strategic, and comprehensive support, no matter the situation. There is no organization better positioned to do this than the Jewish Federation of Greater Rochester.
