The Foundation of the Jewish Federation of Greater Rochester
Selected to Participate in National Jewish Legacy Giving Program

The Foundation will administer the program on behalf of the Rochester Jewish community, which will receive coaching, training and incentive grants from Harold Grinspoon Foundation

The Foundation of the Jewish Federation of Greater Rochester was selected as one of only nine new organizations to join 43 others participating in a national Jewish legacy giving program that to date has secured more than 15,700 after-lifetime commitments with an estimated value of more than a half-billion dollars for communities across North America.

Through LIFE & LEGACYTM, The Foundation, the planned giving program of the Jewish Federation of Greater Rochester, will partner with the Harold Grinspoon Foundation (HGF) to help start a community-wide legacy giving program, creating a shared goal for the organizations to work toward. The Foundation will administer the program on behalf of the Rochester Jewish community and will fund program expenses.  The Foundation will in turn partner with local organizations as a part of the four-year program that provides coaching, training and incentive grants to ensure that legacy giving becomes integrated in the philanthropic culture of the community.

“The Federation is the perfect organization to administer and support this program because of its mission to build a strong Jewish future,” said Leslie Crane, who together with Don Onimus serves co-chair of this new program for The Foundation of the Jewish Federation of Greater Rochester. “There is no better way of fulfilling this mission than by providing agencies and synagogues with the opportunity to build endowments and donor relationships that will extend to last in perpetuity.”

“Life & Legacy is truly a game changer for our community,” added Don Onimus. “It’s a tremendous opportunity for growth and we can’t wait to get started.”

As a participant in LIFE & LEGACY’s 2017-2021 cohort, The Foundation will receive a grant from the Grinspoon Foundation with matching funds of approximately $100,000 each year to provide participating local organizations with the opportunity to receive unrestricted incentive grants based on meeting legacy commitment benchmarks.

LIFE & LEGACY is the newest initiative of HGF which is investing $30 million dollars over a ten-year period to preserve vibrant Jewish life for future generations by ensuring the long-term financial health of Jewish community organizations in cities across North America, including Rochester.

“Providing Jewish communities with proven tools and training to help them secure their long-term financial goals is absolutely vital. Through the LIFE & LEGACY program, I’m hopeful that we will be able to help sustain vibrant communities that allow future generations to enjoy our rich Jewish culture and heritage,” said Harold Grinspoon, the founder of HGF.

LIFE & LEGACY is a four-year partnership program of the Harold Grinspoon Foundation (HGF) that assists communities across North America, through partnerships with Jewish Federations and Foundations, to promote after-lifetime giving to benefit Jewish day schools, synagogues, social service organizations and other Jewish entities.
